Forces and Motion:
- Motion: a change in the position of an object. - Force: a push or pull Mass: - The amount of matter in an object or substance Acceleration: - a change in velocity, which may be - change in speed ( starting, stopping, speeding up,or slowing down) - a change in direction Acceleration is caused by unbalanced forces Deceleration is also called negative acceleration- it means an object is slowing down Speed: - a way to describe motion - Average speed - Rate of motion calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the amount of time it takes to travel that distance - constant speed- speed that does not change - instantaneous speed- speed of an object at any given time The formula for speed is S= D/T |
Velocity:
- Speed and direction of a moving object -Example: Joe was going 35 mph southeast Qualitative Data: - deals with descriptions - data can be observed but not measured - colors, textures, tastes, smell, appearance, etc. - Qualitative = Quality Quantitative Data - deals with numbers - length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time, temperature, cost, members, ages, etc. - Quantitative = Quantity Formulas to live by: F= m X a m= f/a A= f/m |
